Earth Day 2009

On Sunday April 19th members of YYZ Airport Watch upheld their annual tradition in recognition of Earth Day. 21 members joined forces to pick up litter at one of our favourite spotting locations on Bramalea Road adjacent to the FEDEX facility. Additional assistance was provided by two new pending members awaiting their security clearances, as well as a father and his two sons who were out enjoying the afternoon, and who expressed interest in becoming a future member. They graciously dove in an helped us collect trash. About 30 bags of litter were accumulated, and subsequently picked up by GTAA airfield maintenance, who kindly expressed their thanks to us. Thanks to several members who donated garbage bags and gloves to help the cause. A suggestion was put forth to hold a litter pick up more than annually, perhaps we will do another event later in the summer as garbage seems to accumulate quickly at this location.
